Pam and I enjoy the movies, a lot. Our Netflix subscription is one of the best values we have for entertainment. Occasionally, though, we still head out to our local AMC movie theater to check out a movie. Last week we checked out The Crazies, and I enjoyed it, a lot. Why?

There were only two people texting and only 1 yapping through the movie.

Oh the movie was really good, don’t get me wrong. It’s not a typical zombie movie (although I like those) and I really enjoyed it. But it was even MORE enjoyable because the weekday crowd wasn’t completely rude, loud and generally annoying. I can tolerate a texter or two when the weekday price is only $4.75. Kudos to the crowd last week, only a couple of you were once removed from some manners.

Raise your hand if you’ve considered skipping out on movies and waiting for the movie to come on out DVD / OnDemand / Premium Channels.

I used to love going to the movies. When I was a freshman at FSU I’d leave campus after my 8am Spanish class and kill the rest of the morning and afternoon at the movies. I think I put something like 150 points on my AMC Theatres MovieWatcher card by myself, over two semesters. I saw a lot of crap, twice. I had a cell phone back then, and I turned it off. I own a cellphone now, and before the trailers roll, it’s either turned off (I’m doing more of that recently) or it’s on vibrate. Why can’t everyone else understand that?

And why can’t people understand that the movie theater isn’t your personal living room. Seriously, I thought it was only 12-year-olds. I can almost understand the behavior of kids that are without parental supervision, but when it’s 20 or 30-somethings that are blithering idiots and talk through the whole movie, I have to wonder what the hell is wrong with everyone. Does it not occur to them that they’re bothering others? Is it as simple as common courtesy, and that Americans lose more of it each day? Or are people really so ignorant that they don’t realize talking, texting, etc. is inconsiderate when we’ve all just spend $8.75 (or more) to see a recycled Hollywood crapfest?

I’m tired of it, to the point that I almost wish Cell Phone jammers were legal at the movie theater so it wouldn’t be an issue anymore. At least the texting and talking in that regard would be gone. (The worry wart in me disagrees immensely, since in an emergency situation I couldn’t get a call out. What kind of emergency situation? Yeah, well I never said it was reasonable.) Seriously, whenever I can purchase a nice big 40″+ HDTV that might be the end of all night movies, since matinées aren’t usually as bad with the talking and texting. Honestly though, I don’t think I’ve been to a movie in the last six months without some idiot opening the phone up to text or talk.

Anyone have any suggestions besides staying home? I’m a bit exasperated. Yeah I COULD just shut up, but then why would I have a blog?

I have a love / hate relationship with Best Buy. I love them, because I walked in there yesterday to buy V for Vendetta and it was on sale for $9.99. That thrilled me to no end, since I really need to watch it a couple of more times to get everything out of it. It’s like abstract art. I can look at that film a bunch of times and get something different out of it each time. That’s certainly worth $9.99!

I hate Best Buy because I ended up buying two CDs too. Granted, I hardly ever buy anything like that, but I did the “Oh, while I’m here let me grab these CDs.” Evil Best Buy! Eeeeeevil!
